The news has come as a massive boost for the couple, as Paul, 34, is battling a rare eye disease which has led to deteriorating eye sight.

Two and a half weeks before the Black Tie Ball, he had a major operation on his eye, where doctors took tissue and skin from his stomach to prop up the optic nerve in his head.

Tests have since shown there has been no further deterioration in his condition, but it may take months for the treatment to show any improvements.

They both attended the Ball on Saturday 14th June at Barcud Studios, Caernarfon, which was also a fundraiser for the North Wales Air Ambulance, where the world-famous opera star Bryn Terfel,TV presenter Llinos Lee and Actor / TV producer Iestyn Garlick were among the first to congratulate them.

Angela, 36, is originally from Rhyl but moved to Pwllheli to be with Gwynedd Council employee Paul.

She said: "I didn't sleep the night before because I was nervous. I never thought we would win. Paul and I thought it was a great achievement to get to the final three.

"When they announced we had won I couldn't believe it and Paul's sister started screaming.
"Then people just came up to congratulate us and there were hugs and kisses from everyone. It was all a blur."
